Description:
A companion novella to the Shadows of Asphodel series, from Konstantin's point of view.
1914. Konstantin would love to hide in his laboratory and dissect the clockwork dragon captured from Russia, but the Archmages of Vienna have other plans. He finds himself shipped off to St. Petersburg as the scientific attaché to an ambassador. His orders? Look, but don't touch. Of course, he considers this an impossible request with so much enemy technomancy to explore.
To make matters worse, Konstantin has to work with the dashing zeppelin commander Himmel, a man who should also be untouchable. They can't act on the smoldering attraction between them without risking it all. Faced with an illegal relationship and a devious rival technomancer, Konstantin might not return from this mission in Russia without conquering the forbidden.

***My Personal Review***

Konstantin is a very dynamic hero, I found him to be just intoxicating with his strength and passion for clockwork items like the dragon.  Even though the novel is set in 1914 Russia, the elements of Steampunk make it seem like an entirely new atmosphere.  Between the zeppelins, clockworks and technomancy it provides a stunning backdrop for this intriguing story.  Konstantin has worked hard for everything he has in life and thinks he is getting somewhere, but it seems as if every time he gains some ground something happens to push him back down.  He does not have the faith of the Archmages.  However he does gain the respect and love of Theodore Himmel who is in charge of the zeppelin.  There are so many aspects to this story that are just fascinating and it really gives a great portrayal of what Russia would have looked like from the Steampunk POV.  If you aren't familiar with DieselPunk/Steampunk then this will provide a great insight into that fantastical world, but be prepared to be floored by all the techology and science!  I enjoyed reading all the Russian names like Countess Victorova and Konstantin - it was just awesome because I love that era in history.  All in all it is an action-packed tour of the clockwork world.  *Just a note this novel does contain sexual situations that may not be suitable for younger readers*

I received a complimentary ebook in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own and no other compensation was received.
