RUNNING AGAINST TRAFFIC TOUR
STARTING OVER

I can’t think of a single time I have booked a one-way ticket anywhere,
even to a place so familiar and like a second home to me as Key West. I
felt as if I was taking some sort of plunge, picking up and flying away
to a new life, or a new beginning, never to look back. Never to return.
Of course this rush of refreshment is false, nor would I want to pick up
and leave my life as I know it…But there is a hopeful thrill that
accompanies starting over, rebooting, reinventing. People are very
flawed, and life is fraught with troubles and emotional challenges.
Every day is a new chance for them. For all of us, really. I have a
tendency to write about these chances for changing direction. In some
cases, as in Running Against Traffic, my characters don't have a choice in the matter.
Once the brief fantasy ended, and I booked our return flight to
Philadelphia, I wondered what I would do if I were handed the
opportunity to do something differently, to turn my life in another
direction. What if I were handed a one-way ticket to another reality?
What would you do differently, if you could? Where would you go? If
you’re one of those blissful, contented people, congratulations. I
always knew you existed, and I’m happy for you. Perhaps you would take a
